The following factors can be used to determine whether or not you need to
automate your information systems:

Can I retrive information fast enough? Are my customers
happy? Are my employees productive?

Are administrative tasks taking too much of time away from other important
areas such as customer service, supervisory tasks, personal time, etc.?

For mature businesses, would a new, prospective buyer be interested in
eventually buying my business?

When an opportunity arrives, will my company (management and staff) be able to quickly
mobilize itself by transforming data into information, and information into
knowledge in a timely manner?
